The Dubuque Symphony Youth Ensembles (DSYE) presents its Winter Concert at 7:00pm on Sunday, March 9 at The Grand Opera House. The DSYE is comprised of three training ensembles: Dubuque Youth String Ensemble, Dubuque Youth Philharmonia, and Dubuque Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Under the direction of Ann Duchow, the String Ensemble will perform Estrellitas by LaFalco Robinson, Concerto in D major composed by Georg Philipp Telemann and arranged by Robert McCashin, and North Country Legend by Mark Williams.
The Philharmonia will perform Handel’s Concerto for Orchestra transcribed by Eugene Ormandy, and Cirque du Soleil Celebration arranged by Douglas Wagner.
“The performing group Cirque du Soleil (Circus of the Sun) has entranced audiences worldwide,” commented Duchow. “Celebration features selections from five of Cirque’s programs: Kumbalewe, Triangle Tango, O, Pageant and If I Could Reach Your Heart.”
Under the direction of Dr. Thomas Taylor Dickey, Director of Orchestral Activities at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, the Dubuque Symphony Youth Orchestra will perform Mozart's Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, "Morgen" by Richard Strauss, and the first and fourth movements of Beethoven's Symphony No. 4 in B-flat Major.
Soprano Rebekah Demaree will be the featured soloist in Strauss’ “Morgen”. Demaree teaches voice and related coursework at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and is an active concert soloist and recitalist. She has performed several major concert works including appearances with the Dubuque, Elkhart, Spokane, and Washington-Idaho symphony orchestras.
