Madalyn Mackey joined the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra staff in August 2013 as an Administrative Intern, and was hired on as the Education Programs and Operations Manager in February 2014.
As Education Programs Manager she will facilitate Dubuque Symphony Youth Ensemble rehearsals and concerts, serve as a liaison between youth musicians, parents and the conducting and administrative staff, assist with recruitment and organize community outreach programs.
As Operations Manager she will communicate with artistic and administrative staff to ensure proper planning for all Dubuque Symphony Orchestra performances and events as it relates to concert production. This includes serving as backstage manager, assisting with venue negotiations, coordinating stage plots and supervising the transportation of orchestra equipment.
Mackey is a native of Minnesota and holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Performance from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, where she studied with Julia Bogorad-Kogan, Principal Flute of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. She served as Principal Flute of the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra from 2009-2010. Mackey also worked at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County and as an Orchestra Associate for the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra.
In addition to her administrative roles Mackey performs as a substitute musician with the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra and freelances in the tri-state area. She currently lives in Platteville, WI with her husband, Corey, DSO Principal Clarinetist and Professor of Clarinet at UW-Platteville.
