DSO’s William Intriligator Signs Seven-Year Contract Renewal
(DUBUQUE) – The Dubuque Symphony Orchestra has extended its contract with Music Director and Conductor William Intriligator through June of 2025
“This new contract ensures that the Dubuque community will continue to experience a high quality of music performed by the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra for the foreseeable future under the artistic leadership of Maestro William Intriligator.” states DSO Board President Kate Hendel, BVM. “Maestro Intriligator’s gift for creative programming has resulted in concerts from the classics and opera to musicals, rock and country music. I am amazed at the growth of the orchestra over the past 18 years and the passion that William continues to bring to the DSO.”
Intriligator, who came to the orchestra in 2000, has overseen many commissions of new music for the orchestra and has developed programming to reach audiences in new ways and new places - the orchestra has graced stages around the Dubuque area including Five Flags Theatre, the Mississippi Moon Bar, Voices in the Warehouse district, and the Dubuque Arboretum. The orchestra’s 2017/18 season’s Star Crossed Lovers performances showcased a powerful fusion of symphony, theater and opera. And the DSO broke new ground in presenting its first staged musical West Side Story to nearly three sold out crowds in April of 2018.
“I am overjoyed and humbled by the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors’ continued confidence in my leadership of this fine orchestra and organization,” states Intriligator. “Renewing my DSO contract for another seven years allows us to continue the trajectory of the work we are doing: connecting people with great music, impacting them through great performances, strengthening our educational impact, finding new and innovative ways to reach new audiences, and building the orchestra. It is a true pleasure to be part of the terrific DSO team. That includes our professional musicians, whose artistry and dedication to excellence have created so much beautiful music in Dubuque, as well as our fantastic hard-working staff, DSOL volunteers, and our Board of Directors. I feel so lucky to work with Executive Director Mark Wahlert, Concertmaster Eleanor Bartsch, DSO Board President Kate Hendel, and everyone on this outstanding team. This contract extension will culminate in my 25th season as Music Director & Conductor of the DSO. I am very proud of all that we have accomplished together and am looking forward very much to the next seven years!”
In 2013, Maestro Intriligator was awarded the Dubuque County Fine Arts Society’s Elisha Darlin Award in recognition of his impact on the cultural landscape of Dubuque. In 2014, the orchestra also received the Dubuque365 Impact Award in Music, recognizing the many ways the orchestra reaches out to the community.
Intriligator is the third music director in the 60-year history of the orchestra.
