The Dubuque Symphony Orchestra (DSO) presents the third in its 2018-19 elements-themed Classics Concert series: on fire.
The program begins with Beethoven’s Creatures of Prometheus, depicting the Greek titan who stole fire from the Gods and gave that fire to humanity. The DSO features Latin works by Marquez and de Falla, Stravinsky’s fantastic The Firebird ballet suite, and a “Volcano” eruption! The orchestra is also premiering a new guitar concerto written by Dubuque-native composer Zane Merritt. This piece, inspired by issues regarding mental health, features the composer as soloist.
There is a free pre-concert lecture in the Five Flags Theater on Sunday, February 24 at 1:00 pm.
