The Dubuque Symphony Orchestra (DSO) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Wahlert as the new Executive Director. Wahlert will provide leadership and vision to achieve the orchestra’s continued goals of artistic excellence, community engagement and education outreach. He is expected to start around August 1, 2014.
Patti Lachecki, president of the DSO Board of Directors, said of Wahlert’s appointment, “We are excited that Mark will be joining our team. His experience in the arts and as an administrator makes him an ideal choice for our Executive Director. His leadership, creativity and knowledge of the Dubuque community will greatly benefit the DSO as the board and staff continues to set new artistic standards, expand our education programs, forge new partnerships, and work to create a bright and vibrant future for the orchestra.”
Wahlert comes to the DSO with nearly twenty-five years of experience working in the arts. Since 2010, he has served as the Executive Director of the Dubuque Museum of Art. Previously, he worked for the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium, the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. and the Minnesota Orchestra in Minneapolis.
“I am honored to be chosen as the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra’s new Executive Director,” said Wahlert. “I’ve greatly enjoyed my time at the Dubuque Museum of Art and the decision to leave was difficult, but I am looking forward to the new opportunities that lie ahead for me at the symphony.”
Wahlert currently serves on the Art On The River committee and is an emeritus board member and past vice president of the Dubuque County Fine Arts Society. He has previously served as commissioner and chair for the City of Dubuque’s Arts & Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission.
