Dubuque native Zane Merritt currently resides in Buffalo, New York. He has a PhD in music composition from the University at Buffalo, a MM in guitar performance from Butler University, and a BA in music specializing in guitar performance from Clarke University, studying with Amy Dunker and Jaime Guiscafre. His music has been performed globally, from the Dubuque Symphony performing his “Dramatic Individuals” tone poem in 2014 to his composition for piano and electronics “DIY Thunder Frisbee” being performed in Toronto, Canada, in 2016 by pianist Adam Sherkin, to Merritt performing his own solo guitar works in Nagoya, Japan in 2013. He has recently performed at the MATA Festival in New York, NY, as a member of the Switch~ Ensemble, premiering HUNGER, a chamber opera by Jason Thorpe Buchanan in 2015 and performed at the Third Practice Festival in Richmond, VA in 2016. He is currently focusing his attention on recording a set of his own composed music for multiple electric guitars and drum machine.
