A celebratory quality runs through Roman Carnival and Respighi's proud Pines of Rome. You will be swept away by the events that unfold in these two pieces.
Well-known and beloved since its debut and still today, it's hard to believe Rachmaninoff had doubts about writing his second piano concerto and even considered giving up composing all together.
After the unsuccessful premiere of his first symphony, Rachmaninoff was so disheartened he could not bring himself to write. Only after visiting with Dr. Nicolai Dahl, a specialist in the new field of hypnosis, did he gain the confidence to begin the concerto. Sensational pianist Antonio Pompa-Baldi returns to perform the piece. It's romantic passages and pianistic fireworks make it a sure-fire crowd pleaser.
