Both Stravinsky and Grieg wrote these beautiful dance suites in an effort to recall an earlier age. Based on old melodies, some have said it is like old wine in new bottles—or an old Victorian home with a fresh coat of paint. DSO Principal Clarinetist, Corey Mackey, is featured in the mesmerizing—and, at times, jazzy and wild—Concerto for Clarinet by Copland. The orchestra also performs the deeply emotional Adagio for Strings by Barber as well as the world premiere of a new orchestral work written for the DSO by Platteville native Rocky Reuter. This piece was inspired by Eagle Point Park and eagles soaring over the Mississippi River.
