First season with the DSO: 2008 - 2009
Hometown: Winfield, IL
Education: BM in Trumpet Performance from Wheaton College, MM in Trumpet Performance from DePaul University
My earliest musical memory: Listening to a record of my dad’s vocal quartet The Power Company from when he was in college.
I knew I would make a career in music when: I heard the soft brass choral in the last movement of Mahler 3 for the first time.
Favorite thing about performing music: The connection you have with other people you are performing with. You don’t have to be friends, or even like the people you’re playing with to be able to have a special musical connection during a performance. It doesn’t always happen, but when it does you know it, and never forget it.
Favorite recording: Maxim Vengerov’s recording of Ravel’s Tzigane with the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Antonio Pappano
Favorite composer and/or period: Prokofiev
One thing people don’t know about me: I was a terrible recorder player in the 3rd grade. My 3rd grade teacher ordered me to pretend to play during the concert because I was so bad.
On my iPod: The Smashing Pumpkins, Paris Combo, Matthias Hoffs Italian trumpet concertos.
