First season with the DSO: Subbed in 1988, Contract won in 1990
Hometown: Pekin, IL
Education: BA Music Education from Western Illinois University in 1978, MA in Music Performance from University of Iowa in 1993
My earliest musical memory: Spellbound by the awesome organ sound in my church.
I knew I would make a career in music when: I got paid to play in my hometown park band at age 16.
Favorite thing about performing music: The joyous feeling I get from contributing to a live performance. What a rush!
Most memorable performance with the DSO: Beethoven’s Ninth
Favorite composer and/or period: Stravinsky
Advice for young musicians: Listen to all kinds of music and play with people better than you. This will make you want to practice.
A special story about my instrument: It’s the only bassoon I’ve owned, serving me well since 1978.
Other instruments I play: As a band teacher, I play a lot of instruments. Playing sax in a rhythm and blues is a lot of fun.
Other than performing music, I’ve always thought it might be fun to be a: baseball player.
One thing people don’t know about me: I love to be outdoors.
On my iPod or in my CD player: Smooth jazz
