First year with the DSO: 1974
Education: One year at University of Iowa- music major, Associate Degree from Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo Iowa - Architectural and Construction Technology
Earliest musicial memory: Wanting to play flute on the Lawrence Welk show when I got older.
Favorite thing about performing music: As a flute player sitting right in the middle of the orchestra I not only am able to hear all the instruments and can sense how it all fits together, but I can also feel the vibrations of the instruments and the energy emitted from them.
Favorite recording: The Soundtrack from the movie Dr. Zhivago
Favorite composer: Debussy, of course! Mid Afternoon of a Faun
Most memorable performance with the DSO: My first memorable experience is Winning the Young People’s competition as a Junior in High School, and as a result performing Mozart’s Concerto in D with the DSO. My second most memorable experience is performing Cimarosa’s flute duet with Sue Kuenzel.
One thing people don’t know about me: I have three children and eight precious grandchildren..
On my iPod or in my CD player: The soundtrack from Lord of the Rings is in my truck, and the soundtrack from the fourth Harry Potter, Goblet of Fire, is in my house.
