First season with the DSO: 2017/18
My earliest musical memory: Trying out new instruments in 4th grade and finally getting to the drums just to have the instructor tell me I have no rhythm.
I knew I would make a career in music when: When I realized my career as an astronaut wouldn't "take off" first of all. But after playing in more established orchestras, over time I could see less competition and more collaboration between musicians. I believe that this made me realize that I could focus on just enjoying/feeling music instead of just playing it.
Favorite thing about performing music: Playing that perfect note that takes everyone's breath away.
Favorite recording: Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B minor performed by Jacqueline Du Pre
Favorite composer and/or period: Shostakovich/Dvorak and the romantic period
A special story about my instrument: My cello (Aka Bruno) and I were just having a normal pit orchestra practice for "Into The Woods" one day when all of the sudden, the percussionist hit the chimes hard with the mallet and the mallet head broke off, bounced off a timpani and hit/cracked the side of my cello.
Other instruments I play: Bass guitar
Other than performing music, I've always thought it might be fun to be a: Psychologist, just to see how the brain makes music.
One thing people don’t know about me: I've had a band for about 4 years called Sam and the others
On my iPod or in my CD player: All classic rock and some 2Cellos thrown in here and there
