Lizzy Darling is excited to be joining the DSO as principal piccolo. She enjoys an active freelance career, performing frequently with such ensembles as the Billings Symphony and Chorale, West Virginia Symphony, Fort Smith Symphony (AR), Lima Symphony Orchestra (OH), Johnstown Symphony Orchestra (PA), Media Theatre Orchestra (PA), and the Ohio Valley Symphony.
In 2018, Lizzy recorded her debut solo album ‘Sounds of Cincinnati’ alongside Dr. Mikey Arbula, Clarinetist with The United States Army Field Band. An advocate of new music, Lizzy has commissioned and premiered works by Daniel Harrison, Julien Monick, Josh Oxford, Steven Darling, Richard Wetzel, Elaine G. Ross, and Laura Harrison.
As a chamber musician, Lizzy performs frequently in the Darling Duo with her husband Dr. Steven Darling and the MVD Duo with Dr. Andrea Vos-Rochefort. Lizzy has appeared as a performer and lecturer at venues and events throughout the Midwest including the Wright State University Low Brass Festival, Midwest Composers Symposium, Ohio University, University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music, Cincinnati Soundbox, Cornell College Flute Day (IA), National Orchestral Institute Chamber Series, and the Opus Ithaca Flute Camp. Lizzy enjoys a thriving private studio throughout the Dayton-Cincinnati region consisting of traditional and Suzuki students.
Lizzy holds an Artist Diploma from the College Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, a Masters in performance from Ohio University, and a Bachelors in music education from Ithaca College.
