David Scholl is a double bass player who specializes in orchestral and chamber music. He currently serves as principal bass of the Madison, Quad City, and Dubuque symphonies, and as a section member of the Illinois Symphony. In the contemporary music scene, he has performed with Chicago Symphony’s MusicNOW series, University of Chicago’s Contempo series, and the Spektral Quartet.
In addition to his work as a performer, David also has an active pedagogical career: he has presented in classrooms, coached chamber music, run sectionals, and taught music theory in schools throughout the Midwest. Additionally he maintains a private studio both at home and in the Quad Cities.
Originally from Bellevue, WA, David moved to the Midwest to study at Indiana University with Bruce Bransby. After receiving his bachelor’s and master’s degrees, he continued his studies as a fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and at the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. In Civic, he was principal bass and studied with Alex Hanna, principal bass of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
